Step-by-Step Guide to Booking a Private Tibet Tour

Jan 16, 2026 9:19 By lewis

A private tour to Tibet typically represents a greater investment compared to standard group itineraries, often ranging from 30% to 50% higher in cost. This premium translates directly into personalization. Your dates, your interests, and your travel rhythm become the blueprint. By the way, a significant advantage is cost-sharing; bringing along family or friends dramatically reduces the per-person expense, making a luxurious, tailored experience more accessible for your exclusively private group.

Step 1: Send Us Your Inquiry with Your Travel Ideas

The first step to booking your custom Tibet tour is reaching out to us with your travel vision. You don't need a detailed plan—just share the key details that matter to you. Start by visiting our official website, where you can browse through sample private or small group tour itineraries, travel blogs about Tibet's top attractions like Everest Base Camp and Lulang Forest, and get inspired. Next, please complete our brief inquiry form (it only takes a minute!) with your name, a valid email address, and an alternative contact option such as your WhatsApp. Be sure to include details like your desired travel dates, the number of travelers, the places you're eager to visit (such as Lhasa, Shigatse, or Nyingchi), any specific activities you want to try (like trekking near glaciers or learning about Tibetan culture), and your budget range. The more information you share, the better we can tailor our response to your needs. Once you submit the form, our team will start working on your request right away.

Step-by-Step Guide to Booking a Private Tibet Tour

Step 2: Get a Personalized Reply from Our Expert Advisor Within 24 Hours

We understand how exciting it is to plan a trip to Tibet, so we promise to get back to you within 24 hours of receiving your inquiry. One of our experienced Tibet travel advisors will contact you via your preferred method—whether it's email, WhatsApp, or phone call—with a preliminary customized itinerary and quotation. This initial proposal is designed to show you how we can bring your travel ideas to life, and it's just the starting point for our conversation. What sets our service apart is the one-on-one support you'll receive from the moment we first connect until your tour ends. Our advisors are local experts with in-depth knowledge of Tibet's landscapes, culture, and travel regulations, so you can trust them to answer all your questions, from acclimatization tips to the best times to visit specific attractions.

Step-by-Step Guide to Booking a Private Tibet Tour

Step 3: Discuss and Refine Your Itinerary to Perfection

After receiving the preliminary proposal, we'll work closely with you to refine every detail until the itinerary fully meets your expectations. Private tours offer incredible flexibility, but it's important to note that some attractions in Tibet may be temporarily closed due to weather conditions, maintenance, or other reasons—for example, high-altitude areas like Everest Base Camp sometimes close temporarily during heavy snowfall to ensure visitor safety. Our advisors will keep you updated on the latest status of your desired spots and work with you to adjust the itinerary if needed, suggesting alternative attractions that match your interests. While your needs are always our top priority, we'll also share constructive advice to make your trip more reasonable and enjoyable. For instance, we might recommend adding extra rest days in Lhasa at the start of your tour to help you acclimatize to the high altitude, or adjusting your route to avoid long drives on consecutive days. This collaborative process ensures that your final itinerary is not only personalized but also practical and stress-free.

Step 4: Sign the Tour Contract and Pay the Deposit

Once you're happy with the final itinerary and quotation, it's time to confirm your booking by signing the tour contract and paying the deposit. Our advisor will prepare a formal, detailed contract that includes all key information: traveler details, our company information, the confirmed itinerary, total cost, payment terms, insurance coverage, and booking terms and conditions. Take all the time you need to review the contract—if you have any questions or need adjustments, just let us know, and we'll modify it until everything is agreed upon. When you're ready, sign each page of the contract and send it back to us via email or fax. Next, you'll need to pay the deposit as specified in the contract. Typically, this is 20-30% of the local Tibet tour fee plus 100% of the domestic transportation cost (such as flights or train tickets to Tibet). If you're booking your tour at short notice or have special requirements, the deposit may be slightly higher than 30%, and we'll inform you of this in advance. The balance can be paid either before you depart for Tibet or within the first two days of your arrival in Lhasa. After signing the contract, you'll also have one free opportunity to make minor modifications if your plans change.

Step-by-Step Guide to Booking a Private Tibet Tour

Step 5: Complete Tibet Permit Processing and Receive Tour Confirmation

After receiving your deposit and signed contract, your booking will be passed to our operations team, who will handle all the logistical details, including booking hotels and applying for your Tibet Travel Permit. To apply for the permit, we'll need you to email us clear, colorful copies of your passport and Chinese visa a month before your departure date. This lead time ensures that we have enough time to process the permit smoothly, as it requires approval from the Tibet Tourism Bureau. We'll also deliver your Tibet Travel Permit to your hotel in your departure city in China. Rest assured, our team will keep you updated throughout this process, so you never have to worry about missing any important details.

Step 6: Travel to Tibet and Enjoy Your Personalized Adventure

The day you've been waiting for has arrived—time to head to Tibet! Your local guide will be waiting for you at the airport or railway Station to welcome you. They'll help you with your luggage and take you to your hotel, where you can settle in and start acclimatizing to the altitude. Generally speaking, you'll settle the remaining payment once you're in Lhasa and have signed the tour agreement.

Conclusion

Tashi Delek—may your Tibet journey be blessed!

plan a 7-8days trip for me and my boyfriend in April

Hi! I would like to plan a 7-8days trip for me and my boyfriend in April (3rd to 10th ideally) to Nepal, Tibet, and, if possible, Bhutan. Do you think it would be doable? Based on what I read, there are some places/things to do to consider: Nepal: Everest Base Camp trek and the Annapurna Circuit, ancient temples, sacred sites like Lumbini, Kathmandu, Tibet: The Potala Palace in Lhasa and the Jokhang Temple. eventually the holy Mount Kailash or the high-altitude plains. Bhutan: Thimphu, Paro, and the famous Tiger’s Nest Monastery. To take part in cultural traditions, yoga, meditation... Of course I am open to any recommendations you could make. For your reference, we are both based in Asia: him, in Bangkok and myself in Macau. Thank you so much for the information you could provide and, if possible, an estimated budget for your offer.

Thank you for your inquiry. Travel time by vehicle depends on your route. For tours outside Lhasa, it often involves several hours of driving, with opportunities for short stops in local villages. Answered by Tibet Tour team

Dear Shek, Thank you for reaching out and we are here to help. For Hong Kong residents that want to travel to Tibet, a Tibet Travel permit is not required, as long as you have the HKSAR passport, as well as the Home Return Permit (HRP). Officially known as the Mainland Travel Permit for Hong Kong and Macao Residents, the HRP can be issued to Chinese nationals that are permanent residents of Hong Kong in order to enter mainland China. Cheers!

Is Kailash Mansarovar Trip open for Indian Passport Holder?

Is it open for Indian Passport Holder?

Jun 20, 2024 2:30
Answered by Tibet Tour team

Dear Nayak, Thank you for reaching out! We're here to help. Well, for Indian passport holders who plan to visit Mt. Kailash, you have to book your Tibet tour with a licensed Nepali or Indian travel agency that is authorized by the Foreign Affairs Office of TAR or Pilgrim Center (also known as Tibet-India Pilgrim Reception Center) to get your Tibet Travel Permit and run your Tibet tour. If you are an Indian origin who lives outside of India and have another passport, let's say a US or Canadian passport, in this case, we can help you get the Tibet Travel Permit and other travel documents and arrange the Mt. Kailash tours for you.

Dear Azmi, Thanks for your inquiry. A viable option is to fly from HK to Chengdu and later take Chengdu-Lhasa train to Lhasa. You may enjoy the Lhasa to EBC tour from Lhasa to Gyantse, Shigatse, and EBC, which is the most popular itineraries in Tibet. Our travel consultants will have a detailed discussion with you and give you an accurate quotation. Looking forward to seeing you in Lhasa. Best Wishes.

Hello We are a family of 3 (2 adults, 1 child) and would like to visit Tibet again in 2025. We would like to take the train from Xining to Lhasa, then stay in Lhasa and mostly just walk around Barkhor, but also visit 3 monasteries: Sera (by bus), Drak Yerpa (by pilgrimage bus) and Tschokhang. We would like to stay in Lhasa for 10 days total, then leave by plane. Can you arrange a permit for this trip for us (3 Canadians)? Best regards, Brigitte Mueller

The "Tibet Entry Permit" should be apply

I heard from my friend that says there is difference between the above mentioned are: "Individual Tibet Entry Permit" - Individual Entering Tibet is granted. "Group Tibet Entry Permit" - Anyone from the group is Absent, the whole group is deny entry. May I know which one is the correct facts?

Jun 15, 2024 11:12
Answered by Tibet Tour team

Tibet Travel Permit, the required travel document for entering Tibet Autonomous Region, has no distinction between individual and group. . What your friends might have mentioned is the Group Visa, specifically required for entry into Tibet from Nepal. You'll have to apply for the Group Visa at the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu, and you'll need at least four people in your group. You'll all have to enter and leave Tibet together. But if you're entering Tibet from mainland China, you don't need this group thing. Our travel consultant will contact you with more details and help you arrange your trip to Tibet.

Dear Kadam, We appreciate your message and are here to help. If you are an Indian national with a Singapore passport, you can sign up for our 15-day Kailash and Manasarova Small Group Tour that departs on Sept, 1st. Firstly, you need to go to the Chinese Embassy in Singapore and fill out the application form to apply for the Chinese Visa yourself. After you get your Chinese Visa, you are expected to email the photos of your Singapore passport information page and Chinese Visa page to us to apply for Tibet Travel Permit on your behalf. Remember to do this at least 20 days before your departure to Tibet. We will manage to deliver the Tibet Travel Permit to your hotel in the Chinese arrival city. So, you can show the Tibet Permit and board the flight or train to Lhasa. Our expert travel agents will offer you more details and help you plan a seamless Lhasa to Mt. Kailash tour. Cheers!
