Do Macao Residents Need Tibet Travel Permit for Tibet Tour?
Macao residents are eligible to travel to Tibet under the same policy as mainland Chinese citizens and are not required to obtain the Tibet Travel Permit necessary for most foreign nationals. All you need is your valid Macao SAR passport and your Home Return Permit. That's right—no complicated permit process stands between you and the Potala Palace. You are free to book a flight or join a tour group just like any domestic traveler. This policy also applies to our friends from Hong Kong, making travel to the roof of the world wonderfully straightforward.
A couple of practical tips: First, always double-check that your Home Return Permit is valid for your entire journey. Second, while most hotels accept your documents, it's a smart move to confirm in advance. Now, for the adventurers aiming for Everest Base Camp or the remote landscapes of Ngari, there is one extra step. These border regions require a separate Border Permit. But don't worry, this isn't a huge hurdle. You can easily obtain one upon arrival in Lhasa, often with the help of tour operators who can handle the paperwork for you.

What Exactly is the Home Return Permit?
Its full name is the "Mainland Travel Permit for Hong Kong and Macao Residents," and it's a travel document issued by China's authorities. Think of it as a special ID that lets Macao and Hong Kong residents enter and travel freely across mainland China, including Tibet. It looks similar to a passport, with your photo, personal details, and a validity period. Unlike visas or permits that need renewing for each trip, this one covers multiple visits, making it super convenient for frequent travelers.

Best Ways to Travel from Macao to Tibet
The first, and often the most scenic, option is to combine a train journey with a flight. Start with a short trip to the nearby Hengqin or Zhuhai railway station. From there, you can board a high-speed train to a major hub like Guangzhou or Chengdu. Chengdu is a fantastic gateway, as it offers daily direct flights to Lhasa. Alternatively, if you have more time, both Guangzhou and Chengdu offer direct trains to Lhasa, turning the journey into an unforgettable overland epic.
The second option is the all-flight route. While there are no direct flights from Macao to Lhasa, you can find excellent connecting routes. Look for flights with a single stopover in cities like Chengdu or Shanghai. These are usually the fastest options, getting you to the Tibetan capital in a single day.

plan a 7-8days trip for me and my boyfriend in April
Hi! I would like to plan a 7-8days trip for me and my boyfriend in April (3rd to 10th ideally) to Nepal, Tibet, and, if possible, Bhutan. Do you think it would be doable? Based on what I read, there are some places/things to do to consider: Nepal: Everest Base Camp trek and the Annapurna Circuit, ancient temples, sacred sites like Lumbini, Kathmandu, Tibet: The Potala Palace in Lhasa and the Jokhang Temple. eventually the holy Mount Kailash or the high-altitude plains. Bhutan: Thimphu, Paro, and the famous Tiger’s Nest Monastery. To take part in cultural traditions, yoga, meditation... Of course I am open to any recommendations you could make. For your reference, we are both based in Asia: him, in Bangkok and myself in Macau. Thank you so much for the information you could provide and, if possible, an estimated budget for your offer.
