Is It Legal to Bring Tibetan Souvenirs Abroad?
I'm sure most tourists can't resist the urge to buy some Tibetan souvenirs like a colorful thangka or a cozy yak wool scarf, and most traditional Tibetan souvenirs are totally legal to bring abroad, as long as you stick to simple rules. Let's break it down so you can shop worry-free for your trip memories!

Legal Souvenirs: Grab These Without Stress
You'll find a variety of wonderful, legal souvenirs in Tibet that let you take home a bit of its culture. Handicrafts are a top pick: think thangkas (those beautiful Tibetan Buddhist scroll paintings) made with natural mineral paints. Yak wool or cotton textiles are another choice: soft scarves, warm blankets, or even a traditional khata are all allowed. Local silver jewelry, often inlaid with turquoise or coral, is also safe—just double-check it doesn't have ivory or rare gemstones.
Everyday items are easy too: prayer flags, portable prayer wheels, and Tibetan incense can all go in your luggage. Even boxes of highland barley tea or butter tea mixes are fine—just make sure they're sealed and in their original packaging. These little treasures will remind you of your Tibet trip without any legal headaches!

Restricted or Forbidden Items: Skip These to Stay Out of Trouble
While most souvenirs are safe, a few items are either restricted or totally forbidden—so it's key to know what to avoid. First up: products from endangered species. This includes anything with ivory, rhino horn, or tiger bone. Also, skip items made from snow leopard or Tibetan antelope fur, these are illegal worldwide, and carrying them can lead to big fines or even jail time. China strictly controls the export to protect Tibet's heritage and cultural relics. Traditional Tibetan medicine with animal ingredients is also restricted—stick to plant-based options like rhodiola.

Conclusion
The easiest way to make sure your Tibetan souvenirs are legal? Shop at trusted places—like Lhasa's handcraft cooperatives or reputable stores recommended by locals or our guides. We want you to take home amazing memories—not stress about customs. So relax, shop, and let us handle the details for a smooth, happy trip!

plan a 7-8days trip for me and my boyfriend in April
Hi! I would like to plan a 7-8days trip for me and my boyfriend in April (3rd to 10th ideally) to Nepal, Tibet, and, if possible, Bhutan. Do you think it would be doable? Based on what I read, there are some places/things to do to consider: Nepal: Everest Base Camp trek and the Annapurna Circuit, ancient temples, sacred sites like Lumbini, Kathmandu, Tibet: The Potala Palace in Lhasa and the Jokhang Temple. eventually the holy Mount Kailash or the high-altitude plains. Bhutan: Thimphu, Paro, and the famous Tiger’s Nest Monastery. To take part in cultural traditions, yoga, meditation... Of course I am open to any recommendations you could make. For your reference, we are both based in Asia: him, in Bangkok and myself in Macau. Thank you so much for the information you could provide and, if possible, an estimated budget for your offer.
