Military Permit: Essential Document for Restricted Areas in Tibet
Tibet Travel Permit is widely known as an indispensable document for entering Tibet. A Nagri tour consists of visits to Mount Kailash, Guge Kingdom, Tholing Monastery, Dongga Piyang and so on asks for this permit too. In addition to it, another permit named Military Permit is also required for a smooth remote western Tibet tour.
What's the Similarity between Tibet Travel Permit And Military Permit
First of all, both of these permits can only be obtained through Chinese travel agencies by booking a Tibet tour. Individuals can't submit the applications on their own.
Secondly, you don't need to pay extra money for both permits after booking a Tibet trip, as the service fees of applying for both permits are included in your Tibet travel package.
Thirdly, you can't enter Tibet without Tibet Travel Permit. In a similar way, you can't enter restricted area such as Ngari Prefecture without Military Permit. They are all must-have documents to ensure your journey in Tibet is legal.
Fourthly, both permits need to be applied for in advance. Never expect you can obtain the documents at the last minute; it will only ruin your journey.
Fifthly, when our travel agency handles these two document for you, it is us who apply for them on your behalf. It doesn't mean that our travel agency is the processing party. In fact, we will forward your application to the official on your behalf. After processing the permit, and then the official will transfer it to our travel agency.

What's the Difference between Tibet Travel Permit And Military Permit
Firstly, Tibet Travel Permit is handled by Tibet Tourism Bureau, while Military Permit is handled by by Military Affairs Office.
Secondly, the difference in processing parties also means that the processing time is not synchronized. The processing time for Tibet Travel Permit takes at least 8 to 9 working days. If the Tibet trip involves some remote areas such as Mount Kailash, the processing time will be extended. Regarding Military Permit, it generally takes at least 2 weeks to process, which means a longer process time than that of the Tibet Travel Permit. My advice is you should book the relevant itinerary at least 1 month in advance to ensure everything goes smoothly.

Thirdly, all itineraries related to Tibet require Tibet Travel Permit, but not all itineraries need Military Permit. As for the current policies, Military Permit is needed when you book a Tibet trip related to the following areas: Nagri Prefecture, Nyingchi Prefecture, western Nagqu Prefecture, and part attractions of Shigatse Prefecture and Chamdo Prefecture.
Fourthly, Military Permit also involves some special circumstances such as flights from Urumqi and Kashgar to Lhasa, as well as road trips to Tibet from Xinjiang, Qinghai, Sichuan and Yunnan.

Conclusion
Official tourism policies are all subject to dynamic changes. I suggest you pay more attention to our tourism website to get the latest information. It would be even better if you could add the contact information of our tourism consultant! Our team is always telling our customers all the up-to-date news about Tibet tourism without reservation.

Train booking
We are a group of 15 (perhaps 17) who need to take the June 8th 15:27 train from Xining to Lhasa. We need to book this soon so prompt reply would be helpful. We are getting our permits from an agent and should have them in 6-8 days.

Are the flights, visas, passes and permits included in your prices? Thank you kindly. plan a 7-8days trip for me and my boyfriend in April
Hi! I would like to plan a 7-8days trip for me and my boyfriend in April (3rd to 10th ideally) to Nepal, Tibet, and, if possible, Bhutan. Do you think it would be doable? Based on what I read, there are some places/things to do to consider: Nepal: Everest Base Camp trek and the Annapurna Circuit, ancient temples, sacred sites like Lumbini, Kathmandu, Tibet: The Potala Palace in Lhasa and the Jokhang Temple. eventually the holy Mount Kailash or the high-altitude plains. Bhutan: Thimphu, Paro, and the famous Tiger’s Nest Monastery. To take part in cultural traditions, yoga, meditation... Of course I am open to any recommendations you could make. For your reference, we are both based in Asia: him, in Bangkok and myself in Macau. Thank you so much for the information you could provide and, if possible, an estimated budget for your offer.
