Is a Winter Trip to Yamdrok Lake Worth the Cold?
If I had to pick just one of Tibet's Three Sacred Lakes for a winter tour, Yamdrok Lake is definitely my top choice without hesitation for a second. Why? It's the most chilled-out option, and it only takes about 100 kilometers by car and about two hours to get there from Lhasa.
Weather Tips for Visiting Yamdrok Lake in Winter
The 4,440 meters above sea level of Yamdrok Lake is about 300 meters lower than that of Lake Namtso. Moreover, Namtso Lake is located in the heart of the Northern Tibet Grassland and is located in a windy area. Overall, Yamdrok Lake is a bit warmer and more comfortable than Namtso Lake.

The average daytime temperature in Yamdrok Lake during winter, from November to March, ranged from 0 to 10 degrees Celsius. This is because Tibet enjoys abundant sunlight in winter. Once night falls, the wind will grow stronger and the temperature can easily drop below minus 10 degrees Celsius. Therefore, it is not recommended to stay by Yamdrok Lake at night.
The climate in November and March is relatively mild. These two time periods respectively belong to the early winter and the end of winter, and the snowfall is not heavy and the probability of extreme weather occurrence is also low.

From late December to January is the coldest period in Yamdrok Lake, with the average daytime temperature only ranging from -5 to 5 degrees Celsius. But only during this period of time can you have the greatest probability of seeing the most intense and pure blue ice landscape.
To sum up, the winter at Yamdrok Lake is indeed a bit cold, but it is a kind of cold that most tourists can tolerate. By choosing the itinerary of going and returning on the same day, you can return to Lhasa after visiting Yamdrok Lake and enjoy the convenient service facilities and oxygen-supplied hotels.

Conclusion
One reason why most people find it hard to resist choosing to visit Yamdrok Lake in winter is that it is the lowest point of Tibet tourism prices at this time. You can choose a very relaxing 5-day short Lhasa Yamdrok Lake trip, and you will stay in the urban area of Lhasa for four days and depart for Yamdrok Lake on one day and return on the same day.

Train booking
We are a group of 15 (perhaps 17) who need to take the June 8th 15:27 train from Xining to Lhasa. We need to book this soon so prompt reply would be helpful. We are getting our permits from an agent and should have them in 6-8 days.

plan a 7-8days trip for me and my boyfriend in April
Hi! I would like to plan a 7-8days trip for me and my boyfriend in April (3rd to 10th ideally) to Nepal, Tibet, and, if possible, Bhutan. Do you think it would be doable? Based on what I read, there are some places/things to do to consider: Nepal: Everest Base Camp trek and the Annapurna Circuit, ancient temples, sacred sites like Lumbini, Kathmandu, Tibet: The Potala Palace in Lhasa and the Jokhang Temple. eventually the holy Mount Kailash or the high-altitude plains. Bhutan: Thimphu, Paro, and the famous Tiger’s Nest Monastery. To take part in cultural traditions, yoga, meditation... Of course I am open to any recommendations you could make. For your reference, we are both based in Asia: him, in Bangkok and myself in Macau. Thank you so much for the information you could provide and, if possible, an estimated budget for your offer.
