Popular Direct Flights from Chongqing to Tibet

Jul 1, 2026 5:32 By lewis

The international flight reception capacity of Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport (400m) has reached the first-class level in China, and it has built a convenient bridge between Chongqing and international metropolises such as Singapore, Seoul, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Seattle, London, Paris, Dubai and Sydney. With its high frequency of international flights and strong accessibility, it is indeed regarded as a preferred gateway city by many foreign tourists. Furthermore, Chongqing serves as an aviation transportation hub in southwest China, and there are several direct and mature flight routes to Tibet carried by it.

Direct Flights from Chongqing to Lhasa

You can find direct flights non-stop from Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport to Lhasa Gongga Airport (3,650m) every day, with a regular frequency of an average of five flights per day. It takes no more than three hours for you to take off from the Sichuan Basin, cross the Hengduan Mountains and reach the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. The main airlines operating this route are China Southern Airlines, Sichuan Airlines and Air China, all of which all have very solid practical experience in high-altitude flights. At present, Tibet local tourism industry is in its peak season. A one-way economy ticket price from Chongqing to Lhasa fluctuates between about 200 and 400 USD.

Direct Flights from Chongqing to Linzhi

The direct flights from Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport to Linzhi Minlin Airport (2,950m) are not as frequent as those to Lhasa. As of July 2026, the frequency is approximately twice a week. This flight route is operated by Sichuan Airlines and takes about 2.5 hours, escorting you to the vicinity of the Yarlung Zangbo River Valley in Milin City. This one-way economy class ticket typically charges for at least 500 USD per person.

At first glance, it seems that flying from Chongqing to Linzhi is not as convenient as flying to Lhasa. However, it can be seen from the change in altitude that Linzhi is more suitable for adapting to the plateau. For some tourists, the main purpose of their trip to Tibet is to participate in the annual spring Peach Blossom Festival in Linzhi. Flying directly to Linzhi is more time-saving and labor-saving than traveling by land or train from Lhasa to Linzhi.

It Is Recommended Foreigners Transfer in Chongqing before Flying to Tibet

Chongqing cuisine is an important branch and component of Sichuan cuisine, which in turn belongs to one of the eight traditional Chinese cuisines. The spiciness, freshness and aroma of Chongqing cuisine are significantly different from the light and mild food in Tibet. While the taste buds can be certainly satisfied, your eyes will also be fascinated by natural and cultural heritage in Chongqing. Classic and sought-after attractions include Hongyadong Folk Custom Area, Ciqikou Ancient Town, Wulong Karst Tourist Area and Dazu Rock Carvings.

Train booking

We are a group of 15 (perhaps 17) who need to take the June 8th 15:27 train from Xining to Lhasa. We need to book this soon so prompt reply would be helpful. We are getting our permits from an agent and should have them in 6-8 days.

Best time to travel for the Linka festival

Hey, I'm looking to travel to the Linka festival with my partner. When is the best time to go this year? Thanks!

Dear Guest,

Hope you are having a wonderful day! I was delighted to receive your inquiry about experiencing a Tibetan "Linka" with your partner.

Welcome to Tibet Tour Team! With over 20 years of experience in Tibetan travel, we have helped thousands of international travelers explore the beauty and culture of this incredible region. It would be my great pleasure to introduce you and your wife to Tibet and the unique tradition of "Linka."

In Tibetan, "Linka" refers to a park, grassland, or wooded area, while "guo Linka" means spending time there—eating, drinking tea, singing, chatting, and relaxing. It’s a beloved weekend or festive activity among Tibetans.

You asked about the best time of year to experience Linka.Let me walk you through the following aspects:

1. Best Season & Why

Linka is all about leisurely relaxing in meadows or wooded areas under the sun. For this reason, July and August are highly recommended. During these months, the weather is pleasant, the scenery is stunning, and you can enjoy ample sunshine, fresh air, and brilliant blue skies—perfect for fully immersing in the refreshing high-altitude atmosphere.

Additionally, August hosts the Shoton Festival, one of Tibet’s most important traditional celebrations. Locals typically enjoy about a week of holiday, during which residents of Lhasa gather in parks like Norbulingka and Zongjiao Lukang to set up tents, enjoy yogurt, sing, dance, and celebrate Tibetan outdoor culture. You’ll even get to try special Tibetan yogurt, which is deliciously tangy and sweet—in fact, “Shoton” means “yogurt feast” in Tibetan!

2. Recommended Itinerary

Considering your interest in Linka and the recommendation above, I am eager to suggest our specially designed 10-Day Lhasa, Yamdrok Lake, Shigatse & Everest Linka Tour during Shoton Festival. This is a one-time-only departure timed perfectly with the festival. The departure date for this itinerary is August 10th (this is the day you arrive in Lhasa).

More detailed information about the Lingka Festival tour itinerary and introduction has been sent to you by email. Please kindly check your inbox. Thank you very much.

plan a 7-8days trip for me and my boyfriend in April

Hi! I would like to plan a 7-8days trip for me and my boyfriend in April (3rd to 10th ideally) to Nepal, Tibet, and, if possible, Bhutan. Do you think it would be doable? Based on what I read, there are some places/things to do to consider: Nepal: Everest Base Camp trek and the Annapurna Circuit, ancient temples, sacred sites like Lumbini, Kathmandu, Tibet: The Potala Palace in Lhasa and the Jokhang Temple. eventually the holy Mount Kailash or the high-altitude plains. Bhutan: Thimphu, Paro, and the famous Tiger’s Nest Monastery. To take part in cultural traditions, yoga, meditation... Of course I am open to any recommendations you could make. For your reference, we are both based in Asia: him, in Bangkok and myself in Macau. Thank you so much for the information you could provide and, if possible, an estimated budget for your offer.

Dear Shek, Thank you for reaching out and we are here to help. For Hong Kong residents that want to travel to Tibet, a Tibet Travel permit is not required, as long as you have the HKSAR passport, as well as the Home Return Permit (HRP). Officially known as the Mainland Travel Permit for Hong Kong and Macao Residents, the HRP can be issued to Chinese nationals that are permanent residents of Hong Kong in order to enter mainland China. Cheers!

Is Kailash Mansarovar Trip open for Indian Passport Holder?

Is it open for Indian Passport Holder?

Answered by Tibet Tour team

Dear Nayak, Thank you for reaching out! We're here to help. Well, for Indian passport holders who plan to visit Mt. Kailash, you have to book your Tibet tour with a licensed Nepali or Indian travel agency that is authorized by the Foreign Affairs Office of TAR or Pilgrim Center (also known as Tibet-India Pilgrim Reception Center) to get your Tibet Travel Permit and run your Tibet tour. If you are an Indian origin who lives outside of India and have another passport, let's say a US or Canadian passport, in this case, we can help you get the Tibet Travel Permit and other travel documents and arrange the Mt. Kailash tours for you.
