Oct 14, 2025 9:33 By Lewis

Our travel agency specializes in crafting Tibet travel packages centered around rich cultural immersion. In devising the itinerary, we make sure you get to behold the stunning natural sceneries of Tibet. Additionally, we integrate many renowned cultural attractions. We believe that the true essence of Tibet lies in its people, traditions, and history, which is why we've included several immersive cultural activities that have become favorites among our travelers.

Witness the Sparked Debates of Sera Monastery

As you enter the Sera Monastery, the vibrant sounds of debates fill the air. Monks, in their maroon robes, engage in lively discussions, using dramatic hand gestures and passionate voices to explore the depths of Buddhist philosophy. You'll be right there, observing this age-old tradition up-close, gaining unique insights into Tibetan Buddhism. Afterward, you'll have the chance to interact with the monks. They'll share their daily lives, the meaning behind their religious practices, and answer any questions you might have, while your guide can be the interpreter. You can also participate in a meditation session led by experienced monks, learning the techniques to find inner peace in this serene environment.

Follow the Pilgrimage Path around the Jokhang Temple

At Jokhang Temple, one of the most sacred sites in Tibetan Buddhism, circumambulating the temple, or "kora," offers a profound cultural experience for visitors. When you join the pilgrims in their clockwise walk around the temple, you can connect with the deep-rooted spiritual beliefs of the Tibetan people and gain a deeper understanding of their culture and way of life. The temple itself is a masterpiece of Tibetan architecture, adorned with intricate carvings, golden roofs, and vibrant murals that depict scenes from Buddhist history. Inside, the temple houses the revered Buddha statue, which is believed to be the most sacred object in Tibet. The sense of devotion and faith that permeates the temple is beyond the words, and you may find yourself deeply moved by the spiritual energy of the place.

Enjoy an Authentic Tibetan Family Lunch by Lake Yamdrok

The turquoise waters of Lake Yamdrok stretch as far as the eye can see, reflecting the clear blue sky and the majestic snow-capped mountains that surround it. The ever-changing play of light on the lake creates a mesmerizing scene that will leave you spellbound. But the true cultural immersion lies in the rural Tibetan households nestled near the lake. You can visit a traditional Tibetan home, where the warm hospitality of the locals will make you feel right at home. Here, you'll have the opportunity to share a meal with a family, enjoying dishes like Tibetan dumplings, tsampa, and perhaps even trying your hand at making butter tea. During your visit, you'll learn about the daily routines, traditions, and values of the Tibetan people. The family will share stories of their lives, giving you a deeper understanding of the cultural heritage that shapes their community. This immersive experience allows you to witness firsthand the simplicity and resilience of Tibetan rural life, far from the bustling city centers.

Shop and Wander at Barkhor Street

This ancient street, encircling the sacred Jokhang Temple, is a living museum of Tibetan craftsmanship and tradition. While strolling along, you'll witness artisans meticulously crafting traditional Tibetan handicrafts. For instance, you can observe the process of creating thangka paintings, which involves intricate brushwork and vibrant colors to depict Buddhist deities and scenes. The street is also famous for its Tibetan prayer wheels, which you can purchase and use to join the pilgrims in their kora, or circumambulation, around the temple. Furthermore, Barkhor Street's local cuisine contains the Tibetan people's wisdom in adapting to the harsh climate. For example, Tibetan butter tea, this unique beverage, made from tea leaves, yak butter, and salt, offers a rich, hearty flavor that warms you from the inside out. It's the ideal drink to combat the cold, thin air of the plateau, providing both energy and comfort. As you sip on this traditional brew, you're savoring a piece of Tibetan history and culture. By shopping for souvenirs like Tibetan prayer wheels and thangkas, you not only take home a piece of Tibet but also support local artisans and their traditional crafts. These items are symbols of Tibetan culture and spirituality that you can cherish and share with others.

Appreciate the Local Tibetan Dances and Music in the Longwangtan Park

Located near the iconic Potala Palace, Longwangtan Park often hosts traditional performances where you can witness the graceful movements and rhythmic melodies. In the Longwangtan Park, you'll be surrounded by the natural beauty of the area, which serves as the perfect backdrop for these cultural displays. The park's serene atmosphere and picturesque landscapes create an immersive environment where you can fully engage with Tibetan culture. Whether you're watching a group of dancers in traditional attire or listening to the soulful tunes of Tibetan music, you'll feel a deep connection to the land and its people. This cultural immersion is further enhanced by the park's role as a gathering place for locals. You can interact with Tibetans, learning about their customs and gaining insights into their daily lives.

Best time to travel for the Linka festival

Hey, I'm looking to travel to the Linka festival with my partner. When is the best time to go this year? Thanks!

Feb 19, 2026 6:51
Answered by Tibet Tour team

Dear Guest,

Hope you are having a wonderful day! I was delighted to receive your inquiry about experiencing a Tibetan "Linka" with your partner.

Welcome to Tibet Tour Team! With over 20 years of experience in Tibetan travel, we have helped thousands of international travelers explore the beauty and culture of this incredible region. It would be my great pleasure to introduce you and your wife to Tibet and the unique tradition of "Linka."

In Tibetan, "Linka" refers to a park, grassland, or wooded area, while "guo Linka" means spending time there—eating, drinking tea, singing, chatting, and relaxing. It’s a beloved weekend or festive activity among Tibetans.

You asked about the best time of year to experience Linka.Let me walk you through the following aspects:

1. Best Season & Why

Linka is all about leisurely relaxing in meadows or wooded areas under the sun. For this reason, July and August are highly recommended. During these months, the weather is pleasant, the scenery is stunning, and you can enjoy ample sunshine, fresh air, and brilliant blue skies—perfect for fully immersing in the refreshing high-altitude atmosphere.

Additionally, August hosts the Shoton Festival, one of Tibet’s most important traditional celebrations. Locals typically enjoy about a week of holiday, during which residents of Lhasa gather in parks like Norbulingka and Zongjiao Lukang to set up tents, enjoy yogurt, sing, dance, and celebrate Tibetan outdoor culture. You’ll even get to try special Tibetan yogurt, which is deliciously tangy and sweet—in fact, “Shoton” means “yogurt feast” in Tibetan!

2. Recommended Itinerary

Considering your interest in Linka and the recommendation above, I am eager to suggest our specially designed 10-Day Lhasa, Yamdrok Lake, Shigatse & Everest Linka Tour during Shoton Festival. This is a one-time-only departure timed perfectly with the festival. The departure date for this itinerary is August 10th (this is the day you arrive in Lhasa).

More detailed information about the Lingka Festival tour itinerary and introduction has been sent to you by email. Please kindly check your inbox. Thank you very much.

plan a 7-8days trip for me and my boyfriend in April

Hi! I would like to plan a 7-8days trip for me and my boyfriend in April (3rd to 10th ideally) to Nepal, Tibet, and, if possible, Bhutan. Do you think it would be doable? Based on what I read, there are some places/things to do to consider: Nepal: Everest Base Camp trek and the Annapurna Circuit, ancient temples, sacred sites like Lumbini, Kathmandu, Tibet: The Potala Palace in Lhasa and the Jokhang Temple. eventually the holy Mount Kailash or the high-altitude plains. Bhutan: Thimphu, Paro, and the famous Tiger’s Nest Monastery. To take part in cultural traditions, yoga, meditation... Of course I am open to any recommendations you could make. For your reference, we are both based in Asia: him, in Bangkok and myself in Macau. Thank you so much for the information you could provide and, if possible, an estimated budget for your offer.

Dear Shek, Thank you for reaching out and we are here to help. For Hong Kong residents that want to travel to Tibet, a Tibet Travel permit is not required, as long as you have the HKSAR passport, as well as the Home Return Permit (HRP). Officially known as the Mainland Travel Permit for Hong Kong and Macao Residents, the HRP can be issued to Chinese nationals that are permanent residents of Hong Kong in order to enter mainland China. Cheers!

Is it open for Indian Passport Holder?

Jun 20, 2024 2:30
Answered by Tibet Tour team

Dear Nayak, Thank you for reaching out! We're here to help. Well, for Indian passport holders who plan to visit Mt. Kailash, you have to book your Tibet tour with a licensed Nepali or Indian travel agency that is authorized by the Foreign Affairs Office of TAR or Pilgrim Center (also known as Tibet-India Pilgrim Reception Center) to get your Tibet Travel Permit and run your Tibet tour. If you are an Indian origin who lives outside of India and have another passport, let's say a US or Canadian passport, in this case, we can help you get the Tibet Travel Permit and other travel documents and arrange the Mt. Kailash tours for you.

The "Tibet Entry Permit" should be apply

I heard from my friend that says there is difference between the above mentioned are: "Individual Tibet Entry Permit" - Individual Entering Tibet is granted. "Group Tibet Entry Permit" - Anyone from the group is Absent, the whole group is deny entry. May I know which one is the correct facts?

Jun 15, 2024 11:12
Answered by Tibet Tour team

Tibet Travel Permit, the required travel document for entering Tibet Autonomous Region, has no distinction between individual and group. . What your friends might have mentioned is the Group Visa, specifically required for entry into Tibet from Nepal. You'll have to apply for the Group Visa at the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu, and you'll need at least four people in your group. You'll all have to enter and leave Tibet together. But if you're entering Tibet from mainland China, you don't need this group thing. Our travel consultant will contact you with more details and help you arrange your trip to Tibet.
