Mt. Kailash Trek Day 01: 14 km trek with mountain views, rare summit sightings, and a stop at Driapuk Monastery.

From Darchen, a shuttle will take you to Prayer Flag Square, about 6 km from the entrance of Mount Kailash. In the valley below, yaks, horses, and porters are available for hire (at an additional cost) should you need support for the journey ahead.

Your Mount Kailash kora begins with a 14 km trek, gradually drawing you deeper into the sacred energy of this revered landscape. As you make your way through the canyon, you'll be surrounded by vast blue skies and towering snow-covered peaks. Mt. Kailash Trek Day 02: 20 km challenging trek, climb Dolma La Pass, pass Mercy Lake, and descend to Dzultripuk Monastery.

After a good night's rest, you will begin the most challenging stage of the journey- a 20 km trek. The trail from Driapuk Monastery climbs steadily toward the 5,650-meter Dolma La Pass, the highest point of the entire kora. Below the pass lies the serene Mercy Lake, its clear, jade-like waters shimmering quietly among the mountains.

After crossing the pass, the path descends toward tonight's stop at Dzultripuk Monastery. Along the way, you may encounter devoted Tibetan pilgrims performing full-body prostrations as they move toward sacred sites- a deeply moving expression of faith set against the dramatic Himalayan landscape.

                    Day 10: Dzultripuk-Darchen-Zanda

Mt. Kailash Trek Day 03: descend to Darchen, snowy terrain turns green, with grasslands and jewel-like lakes.

Today marks the final day of our Mount Kailash kora as you make your way back to Darchen. As you descend to lower altitudes, the stark snowy terrain gradually softens into vibrant greenery. The last 10.6 kilometers of the trek open up to expansive grasslands and small, jewel-like lakes. If you feel fatigued, an eco-bus is available for the last 4km of the kora to take you back to Darchen. After a short rest, your journey continues onward to Zanda.

                    Overnight in Zanda

                      Day 11: Zanda-Darchen

Today's highlights include visiting the 700-year-old Guge Kingdom ruins, exploring mural-famed Torling Monastery, and venturing into the Zanda Earth Forest for an unforgettable experience.

Our day begins with a true highlight: stepping back in time at the Guge Kingdom ruins. Set against the highlands of Ali, these silent walls tell an extraordinary 700-year story spanning China's Song, Yuan, and Ming dynasties. Following the decline of the Tubo Kingdom, Guge rose as its successor and became a crucial sanctuary for Buddhism. Not far away lies the enchanting Torling Monastery, a hidden gem renowned for its murals. The adventure then turns almost otherworldly as we enter the Zanda Earth Forest, a "stone forest" of towering clay pillars sculpted over millennia into whimsical and surreal forms. Driving among them feels like weaving between the feet of sleeping giants, offering a humbling and unforgettable experience.

                      Overnight in Darchen
                      Breakfast

                        Day 12: Darchen-Saga or Zhongba

Today's drive to Saga crosses vast plains dotted with pastoral villages, where sheep and cattle graze beneath snow-capped mountains and mirrored lakes.

Today, our journey to Saga carries us across vast plains dotted with tranquil pastoral villages. Herds of sheep and cattle graze like scattered pearls across the pastures, set against a backdrop of towering, snow-capped mountains and crystal-clear lakes that mirror one another. This scene comprises what can only be described as Tibet’s most quintessential landscape. A moment's pause here allows you to immerse yourself fully in the profound peace and grandeur of the meeting between earth and sky.

                        Overnight in Saga or Zhongba
                        Breakfast

                          Day 13: Saga/Zhongba-Gyirong

Today's journey takes you from Saga to Gyirong Valley, and then to Gyirong Port for border formalities to Nepal. Your incredible journey is to an end.

Today's journey carries you from Saga to the breathtaking Gyirong Valley, a hidden sanctuary tucked beneath towering peaks and often hailed as "Everest's Backyard." After soaking in its serene beauty, you will be escorted in the afternoon to Gyirong Port, where the final border formalities await before your onward journey to Nepal.

plan a 7-8days trip for me and my boyfriend in April

Hi! I would like to plan a 7-8days trip for me and my boyfriend in April (3rd to 10th ideally) to Nepal, Tibet, and, if possible, Bhutan. Do you think it would be doable? Based on what I read, there are some places/things to do to consider: Nepal: Everest Base Camp trek and the Annapurna Circuit, ancient temples, sacred sites like Lumbini, Kathmandu, Tibet: The Potala Palace in Lhasa and the Jokhang Temple. eventually the holy Mount Kailash or the high-altitude plains. Bhutan: Thimphu, Paro, and the famous Tiger’s Nest Monastery. To take part in cultural traditions, yoga, meditation... Of course I am open to any recommendations you could make. For your reference, we are both based in Asia: him, in Bangkok and myself in Macau. Thank you so much for the information you could provide and, if possible, an estimated budget for your offer.

Dear Shek, Thank you for reaching out and we are here to help. For Hong Kong residents that want to travel to Tibet, a Tibet Travel permit is not required, as long as you have the HKSAR passport, as well as the Home Return Permit (HRP). Officially known as the Mainland Travel Permit for Hong Kong and Macao Residents, the HRP can be issued to Chinese nationals that are permanent residents of Hong Kong in order to enter mainland China. Cheers!

Dear Nayak, Thank you for reaching out! We're here to help. Well, for Indian passport holders who plan to visit Mt. Kailash, you have to book your Tibet tour with a licensed Nepali or Indian travel agency that is authorized by the Foreign Affairs Office of TAR or Pilgrim Center (also known as Tibet-India Pilgrim Reception Center) to get your Tibet Travel Permit and run your Tibet tour. If you are an Indian origin who lives outside of India and have another passport, let's say a US or Canadian passport, in this case, we can help you get the Tibet Travel Permit and other travel documents and arrange the Mt. Kailash tours for you.

Dear Azmi, Thanks for your inquiry. A viable option is to fly from HK to Chengdu and later take Chengdu-Lhasa train to Lhasa. You may enjoy the Lhasa to EBC tour from Lhasa to Gyantse, Shigatse, and EBC, which is the most popular itineraries in Tibet. Our travel consultants will have a detailed discussion with you and give you an accurate quotation. Looking forward to seeing you in Lhasa. Best Wishes.

Hello We are a family of 3 (2 adults, 1 child) and would like to visit Tibet again in 2025. We would like to take the train from Xining to Lhasa, then stay in Lhasa and mostly just walk around Barkhor, but also visit 3 monasteries: Sera (by bus), Drak Yerpa (by pilgrimage bus) and Tschokhang. We would like to stay in Lhasa for 10 days total, then leave by plane. Can you arrange a permit for this trip for us (3 Canadians)? Best regards, Brigitte Mueller

Tibet Travel Permit, the required travel document for entering Tibet Autonomous Region, has no distinction between individual and group. . What your friends might have mentioned is the Group Visa, specifically required for entry into Tibet from Nepal. You'll have to apply for the Group Visa at the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu, and you'll need at least four people in your group. You'll all have to enter and leave Tibet together. But if you're entering Tibet from mainland China, you don't need this group thing. Our travel consultant will contact you with more details and help you arrange your trip to Tibet.

For both ways, our travel agents will help you get your Tibet Travel Permit and other travel documents needed and arrange the accommodations, local expert guide, etc. based on your travel preferences and interests.
