Budget Hotels in Shigatse
Whether you're fascinated by Tibet's urban culture and local traditions, or hesitant about venturing above 4,000 meters and prefer sticking to mid-altitude areas, Shigatse is a fantastic alternative to Lhasa that you can't miss. As Tibet's second-most prosperous city, it's packed with attractions: the grand Tashilhunpo Monastery and the vibrant Samdruptse Old Market, where you can browse colorful handicrafts, local snacks, and traditional textiles. Best of all, Shigatse offers plenty of budget-friendly hotels that don't skimp on comfort—perfect for travelers wanting to save without sacrificing a good stay. These options mentioned below range from 200 to 400 RMB per night, making them ideal for backpackers or anyone traveling on a moderate budget.

Shiga-Yangcha Grand Hotel: 4-Star Affordability Near Key Spots
If you're a budget-conscious backpacker looking for a 4-star experience without the high price tag, the Shiga-Yangcha Grand Hotel is a top pick. Its location is unbeatable: right in Shigatse's city center, just a short walk from Tashilhunpo Monastery—great for early-morning visits to avoid crowds. It's also only about 400 meters from Xigezi Pedestrian Street, where you can find restaurants, cafes, and shops for evening entertainment or last-minute souvenirs. The rooms are clean, tidy, and equipped with all the basics you need after a day of exploring. Of course this hotel serves a delicious Tibetan-style breakfast, thus letting you dive into local culture before even stepping out the door. Prices here hover between 350 to 400 RMB per night, offering excellent value for its location and amenities.

Shigatse Gesar Hotel Main Building: Comfort with Tibetan Charm
This hotel is situated in a busy, convenient part of the city, just 1 kilometer from Tashilhunpo Monastery—an easy 15-minute walk. The rooms are well-equipped, with some featuring modern decor that balances comfort and functionality (think soft lighting, spacious desks, and cozy bedding). What makes this hotel special, though, is its Tibetan cultural touches—all the decor is handcrafted using traditional Western Tibet techniques, including intricate carvings, openwork designs, and colorful paintings. The staff is also incredibly friendly and helpful, ready to answer questions about local attractions or arrange transportation. At around 300 RMB per night, it's a steal for the charm and service.
Yongze Lakeside International Hotel: Lakeside Serenity for Nature Lovers
If you prefer a stay with natural scenery and a bit more relaxation, the Yongze Lakeside International Hotel (a 3-diamond property) is perfect. As its name suggests, it's located right by a lake on the edge of Shigatse, offering peaceful views of water and distant hills—ideal for families or photographers who want to unwind after sightseeing. It's also close to attractions like Yongbulakang (one of Tibet's oldest palaces), making it easy to combine cultural visits with nature walks. The rooms are comfortable and modern, with amenities like flat-screen TVs, minibars, and large windows to enjoy the lake views. The hotel has a restaurant serving both Chinese and Western cuisine, plus a cozy café for afternoon tea. Best of all, you can take a leisurely stroll along the lake shore in the morning or evening, breathing in fresh mountain air and soaking up the serene atmosphere. Prices range from 300 to 400 RMB per night, a fair cost for the tranquil setting and quality.

plan a 7-8days trip for me and my boyfriend in April
Hi! I would like to plan a 7-8days trip for me and my boyfriend in April (3rd to 10th ideally) to Nepal, Tibet, and, if possible, Bhutan. Do you think it would be doable? Based on what I read, there are some places/things to do to consider: Nepal: Everest Base Camp trek and the Annapurna Circuit, ancient temples, sacred sites like Lumbini, Kathmandu, Tibet: The Potala Palace in Lhasa and the Jokhang Temple. eventually the holy Mount Kailash or the high-altitude plains. Bhutan: Thimphu, Paro, and the famous Tiger’s Nest Monastery. To take part in cultural traditions, yoga, meditation... Of course I am open to any recommendations you could make. For your reference, we are both based in Asia: him, in Bangkok and myself in Macau. Thank you so much for the information you could provide and, if possible, an estimated budget for your offer.
