Lhasa holds a central position in any Tibet travel itinerary. As the capital of Tibet, Lhasa serves as the transportation hub, boasting a well-connected network of flights and train services. The Lhasa Gonggar Airport provides numerous daily flights both to and from major cities in China, while the Qinghai-Tibet Railway, often hailed as an engineering marvel, provides frequent train services, making Lhasa easily accessible for travelers. In terms of tourism resources, Lhasa is unparalleled. The city is home to the iconic Potala Palace. Beyond this landmark, Lhasa is dotted with numerous Tibetan Buddhist temples steeped in religious atmosphere, such as the Jokhang Temple and Sera Monastery. When it comes to travel facilities, Lhasa also offers the best in Tibet. The city provides a wide range of accommodation options, and the dining scene is equally diverse, with a variety of Tibetan and international cuisines available.

Which Type of Tourists Is Suitable for the Private Guided Lhasa City Tour?

For tourists with limited time, private guided Lhasa city tours are an ideal choice. Lhasa is home to renowned attractions like the Potala Palace, the Jokhang Temple, and Barkhor Street. These sites vividly showcase Tibet's rich history, profound culture, and unique religious features. If you have only a short vacation and can't explore other remote regions of Tibet in-depth, this Lhasa-centered travel package allows you to experience the essence of Tibet within a limited time frame. You can marvel at the architectural grandeur of the Potala Palace, feel the spiritual atmosphere in the Jokhang Temple, and soak up the local vibes on Barkhor Street, all in one trip.

Our private guided Lhasa city tour is particularly suitable for spiritual seekers and cultural enthusiasts who are deeply interested in religious culture. As the heart of Tibet's spiritual and cultural life, Lhasa is home to numerous ancient monasteries and sacred sites. The Jokhang Temple, which houses the sacred 12-year-old statue of Sakyamuni, is a pilgrimage destination for Buddhist devotees who come daily to pay homage. The Potala Palace, a magnificent architectural masterpiece, also serves as a treasure trove of religious art and artifacts. The palace and the surrounding Barkhor Street are bustling with believers who partake in the ritual circumambulation, known as kora. Additionally, this private tour is led by knowledgeable local guides who are experts in Tibetan history and culture, fluent in English. They can provide detailed insights into the historical background of each site, as well as share stories and traditions that bring the city to life.

Private Guided Lhasa City Tours

Perfect for first-time tourists who are worried about altitude sickness or have relatively poor physical adaptability, this trip is a great fit. Lhasa sits at an altitude of around 3,650 meters, which is relatively lower compared to some other areas in Tibet. Best time to travel for the Linka festival

Hey, I'm looking to travel to the Linka festival with my partner. When is the best time to go this year? Thanks!

Answered by Tibet Tour team

Dear Guest,

Hope you are having a wonderful day! I was delighted to receive your inquiry about experiencing a Tibetan "Linka" with your partner.

Welcome to Tibet Tour Team! With over 20 years of experience in Tibetan travel, we have helped thousands of international travelers explore the beauty and culture of this incredible region. It would be my great pleasure to introduce you and your wife to Tibet and the unique tradition of "Linka."

In Tibetan, "Linka" refers to a park, grassland, or wooded area, while "guo Linka" means spending time there—eating, drinking tea, singing, chatting, and relaxing. It’s a beloved weekend or festive activity among Tibetans.

You asked about the best time of year to experience Linka.Let me walk you through the following aspects:

1. Best Season & Why

Linka is all about leisurely relaxing in meadows or wooded areas under the sun. For this reason, July and August are highly recommended. During these months, the weather is pleasant, the scenery is stunning, and you can enjoy ample sunshine, fresh air, and brilliant blue skies—perfect for fully immersing in the refreshing high-altitude atmosphere.

Additionally, August hosts the Shoton Festival, one of Tibet’s most important traditional celebrations. Locals typically enjoy about a week of holiday, during which residents of Lhasa gather in parks like Norbulingka and Zongjiao Lukang to set up tents, enjoy yogurt, sing, dance, and celebrate Tibetan outdoor culture. You’ll even get to try special Tibetan yogurt, which is deliciously tangy and sweet—in fact, “Shoton” means “yogurt feast” in Tibetan!

2. Recommended Itinerary

Considering your interest in Linka and the recommendation above, I am eager to suggest our specially designed 10-Day Lhasa, Yamdrok Lake, Shigatse & Everest Linka Tour during Shoton Festival. This is a one-time-only departure timed perfectly with the festival. The departure date for this itinerary is August 10th (this is the day you arrive in Lhasa).

More detailed information about the Lingka Festival tour itinerary and introduction has been sent to you by email. Please kindly check your inbox. Thank you very much.

plan a 7-8days trip for me and my boyfriend in April

Hi! I would like to plan a 7-8days trip for me and my boyfriend in April (3rd to 10th ideally) to Nepal, Tibet, and, if possible, Bhutan. Do you think it would be doable? Based on what I read, there are some places/things to do to consider: Nepal: Everest Base Camp trek and the Annapurna Circuit, ancient temples, sacred sites like Lumbini, Kathmandu, Tibet: The Potala Palace in Lhasa and the Jokhang Temple. eventually the holy Mount Kailash or the high-altitude plains. Bhutan: Thimphu, Paro, and the famous Tiger’s Nest Monastery. To take part in cultural traditions, yoga, meditation... Of course I am open to any recommendations you could make. For your reference, we are both based in Asia: him, in Bangkok and myself in Macau. Thank you so much for the information you could provide and, if possible, an estimated budget for your offer.

Answered by Tibet Tour team

Dear Shek, Thank you for reaching out and we are here to help. For Hong Kong residents that want to travel to Tibet, a Tibet Travel permit is not required, as long as you have the HKSAR passport, as well as the Home Return Permit (HRP). Officially known as the Mainland Travel Permit for Hong Kong and Macao Residents, the HRP can be issued to Chinese nationals that are permanent residents of Hong Kong in order to enter mainland China. Cheers!

Is it open for Indian Passport Holder?

Answered by Tibet Tour team

Dear Nayak, Thank you for reaching out! We're here to help. Well, for Indian passport holders who plan to visit Mt. Kailash, you have to book your Tibet tour with a licensed Nepali or Indian travel agency that is authorized by the Foreign Affairs Office of TAR or Pilgrim Center (also known as Tibet-India Pilgrim Reception Center) to get your Tibet Travel Permit and run your Tibet tour. If you are an Indian origin who lives outside of India and have another passport, let's say a US or Canadian passport, in this case, we can help you get the Tibet Travel Permit and other travel documents and arrange the Mt. Kailash tours for you.

The "Tibet Entry Permit" should be apply

I heard from my friend that says there is difference between the above mentioned are: "Individual Tibet Entry Permit" - Individual Entering Tibet is granted. "Group Tibet Entry Permit" - Anyone from the group is Absent, the whole group is deny entry. May I know which one is the correct facts?

Jun 15, 2024 11:12
Answered by Tibet Tour team

Tibet Travel Permit, the required travel document for entering Tibet Autonomous Region, has no distinction between individual and group. . What your friends might have mentioned is the Group Visa, specifically required for entry into Tibet from Nepal. You'll have to apply for the Group Visa at the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu, and you'll need at least four people in your group. You'll all have to enter and leave Tibet together. But if you're entering Tibet from mainland China, you don't need this group thing. Our travel consultant will contact you with more details and help you arrange your trip to Tibet.
