This time, let's set aside the well-known scenic spots in Lhasa and Shigatse and shift our focus to the more pure and serene Shannan Prefecture. Don't let just one or two areas define what the culture of Tibet is like. Only by visiting from multiple perspectives can you truly gain an authentic travel experience.
Yungbulakang Palace
Yumbulagang is known as the first temple in the Tibet's history, with a history of over 2,000 years, which is even longer than that of the Potala Palace. Even with such a long history, it has never been abandoned and is still open to tourists. This palace in the form of a red and white building, like the Potala Palace, is also located on the top of a mountain, overlooking the river valley beneath its feet. If you want to explore the changes of the Tubo Dynasty and Tibetan Buddhism, the ancient murals here will tell you the story in person.
Yamdrok Lake
I don't want to repeatedly emphasize the extremely high religious status of Yamdrok lake. This time, I simply want to let you discover another side of it from the perspective of a natural wonder. The plateau environment is undoubtedly harsh, but Yamdrok Lake is like a natural sanctuary, sheltering a host of wild animals at an altitude of 4,400 meters. Yamdrok Lake has a very complete aquatic ecosystem and an extremely rich fish resource. Tibetan naked carp is precisely one of the very common species. It gets its name from the fact that it has almost no scales on its body. Yamdrok Lake is also one of the largest waterbird habitats in Tibet. During the migration season, it is not uncommon for tens of thousands of birds to spend the winter here, among which there are rare animals such as the black-necked crane.
Puma Yumtso Lake
Due to its altitude of 5,000 meters and relatively remote location, Pumo Yumtso Lake is far less renowned than Yamdrok Lake. It is precisely because there are fewer tourists here that the beauty of this place is undisturbed. Here, the lakeside grassland is widespread, and around it is the Tuiwa Village, which is believed to be the world's highest-altitude village. Every winter, the villagers here present a spectacular scene of herding a thousand sheep crossing the ice lake, which can be fully called a cultural wonder.
Samye Monastery
If anyone asks me about the most recommended monastery in Shannan, I will say Samye Monastery without hesitation. Established in the 8th century, this place was once the political center of the Tubo Dynasty and also a religious sacred site. It is no exaggeration to say that the establishment of Samye Monastery symbolizes the beginning of the wide spread of Buddhism in Tibet.

Hi! I would like to plan a 7-8days trip for me and my boyfriend in April (3rd to 10th ideally) to Nepal, Tibet, and, if possible, Bhutan. Do you think it would be doable?
