10-day Tibet Tour with Everest Base Camp and Cultural Highlights

Oct 24, 2025 10:00 By Lewis

Ten days is the perfect timeframe for a Tibetan adventure. This duration strikes an ideal balance—long enough to explore without rushing through attractions, yet short enough to avoid travel fatigue. Spend the first two to three days immersing yourself in Lhasa's cultural heart: wander through Barkhor Street to feel its historical pulse, listen to ancient chants echoing in Jokhang Temple, and marvel at the architectural wonder of Potala Palace, allowing your body to acclimatize to the high altitude. The next three to four days can be dedicated to visiting sacred lakes and the Everest Base Camp, where you'll witness the vivid blue waters of Yamdrok Lake, the stark beauty of Karola Glacier, and the awe-inspiring grandeur of Mount Everest up close, with ample time to soak in the views and capture memories. In the final two to three days, return to Lhasa's surroundings to discover hidden gems like Tashilhunpo Monastery and Dangxiong Grassland, and savor local delicacies, ensuring a fulfilling conclusion to your journey.

Day to Day Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Lhasa - Rest and Acclimatization

Upon your arrival in Lhasa, our dedicated guide will meet you at the airport/train station and escort you to your hotel in the city. It is highly recommended that you refrain from bathing and consuming alcohol for the first two to three days to allow your body to acclimate to the high-altitude environment. Plenty of rest and avoiding strenuous activities are key to preventing altitude sickness.

Day 2: Exploring Two Core Tibetan Buddhist Monasteries

In the morning, visit Drepung Monastery, once home to as many as 10,000 monks and still housing hundreds of resident monks today. There is no better place to observe the monastic life of meditation and study than Drepung. In the afternoon, head to Sera Monastery to witness the spectacular debates among monks. These lively exchanges transform abstract Buddhist philosophy into vivid gestures and passionate tones, offering a unique insight into the intellectual depth of Tibetan Buddhism.

Day 3: A Day of Rich Cultural Exploration in Lhasa

Begin your day with a visit to the Potala Palace, the pinnacle of Tibetan architectural art. Its grandeur and historical significance will leave you snapping photos at every turn. Nearby, the Longwangtan Park offers a peaceful retreat where you can join local Tibetans in singing and dancing. At Jokhang Temple, the spiritual heart of Tibet, immerse yourself in the devout atmosphere, surrounded by the scent of incense and the sound of chanting. Finally, stroll through Barkhor Street to experience the authentic, bustling life of Lhasa, where centuries-old traditions are still very much alive.

Day 4: A Full Day at Yamdrok Lake - Time for Reflection and Relaxation

Spend the entire day at Yamdrok Lake, taking in the breathtaking panoramic views from the observation deck. Watch as the lake's colors shift with the changing light and time of day. Visit a nearby village to enjoy a farmhouse experience, and take your time to fully explore and enjoy the serene beauty of Yamdrok Lake.

Day 5: Ascending to Everest Base Camp

Gradually ascend to higher altitudes as you make your way to Everest Base Camp. Stop at several viewpoints to admire the majestic scenery of Mount Everest and the Himalayan range. Prepare for the journey to the 5,200-meter-high Everest Base Camp, and catch a stunning sunset over the world's highest peak.

Day 6: Sunrise at the Top of the World

Wake up early to witness the awe-inspiring sunrise over Mount Everest. Visit Rongbuk Monastery, the highest-altitude monastery in the world, and enjoy views of several 8,000-meter-plus peaks from various viewpoints. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be so close to the world's highest summit.

Day 7: Exploring the Largest Tibetan Buddhist Monastery in Shigatse

Visit Tashilhunpo Monastery, the largest Tibetan Buddhist monastery in Shigatse, the second-largest city in Tibet. Marvel at the rich Buddhist culture and history. On your way back to Lhasa, catch a glimpse of the Yarlung Tsangpo River, the longest river in Tibet.

Day 8: Grassland Scenery and the Sacred Lake

Explore Damxung Grassland, a traditional home for Tibetan herdsmen. This vast grassland is not only a scenic wonder but also a perfect place to experience authentic nomadic life and the vibrant Tibetan culture. Take a leisurely walk around Namtso Lake, one of the most beautiful lakes in Tibet, and enjoy its unique beauty.

Day 9: Visiting Two Unique Temples Near Lhasa

Visit the largest nunnery in Lhasa and then head to Tsurphu Monastery, one of the oldest monasteries in Tibet. These visits will provide you with a unique and in-depth understanding of Tibetan Buddhism, its history, and its practices.

Day 10: End of Your Tibet Journey

Our staff will accompany you from your hotel to the airport/train station, marking the end of your memorable journey in Tibet.

Best time to travel for the Linka festival

Hey, I'm looking to travel to the Linka festival with my partner. When is the best time to go this year? Thanks!

Answered by Tibet Tour team

Dear Guest,

Hope you are having a wonderful day! I was delighted to receive your inquiry about experiencing a Tibetan "Linka" with your partner.

Welcome to Tibet Tour Team! With over 20 years of experience in Tibetan travel, we have helped thousands of international travelers explore the beauty and culture of this incredible region. It would be my great pleasure to introduce you and your wife to Tibet and the unique tradition of "Linka."

In Tibetan, "Linka" refers to a park, grassland, or wooded area, while "guo Linka" means spending time there—eating, drinking tea, singing, chatting, and relaxing. It’s a beloved weekend or festive activity among Tibetans.

You asked about the best time of year to experience Linka.Let me walk you through the following aspects:

1. Best Season & Why

Linka is all about leisurely relaxing in meadows or wooded areas under the sun. For this reason, July and August are highly recommended. During these months, the weather is pleasant, the scenery is stunning, and you can enjoy ample sunshine, fresh air, and brilliant blue skies—perfect for fully immersing in the refreshing high-altitude atmosphere.

Additionally, August hosts the Shoton Festival, one of Tibet’s most important traditional celebrations. Locals typically enjoy about a week of holiday, during which residents of Lhasa gather in parks like Norbulingka and Zongjiao Lukang to set up tents, enjoy yogurt, sing, dance, and celebrate Tibetan outdoor culture. You’ll even get to try special Tibetan yogurt, which is deliciously tangy and sweet—in fact, “Shoton” means “yogurt feast” in Tibetan!

2. Recommended Itinerary

Considering your interest in Linka and the recommendation above, I am eager to suggest our specially designed 10-Day Lhasa, Yamdrok Lake, Shigatse & Everest Linka Tour during Shoton Festival. This is a one-time-only departure timed perfectly with the festival. The departure date for this itinerary is August 10th (this is the day you arrive in Lhasa).

More detailed information about the Lingka Festival tour itinerary and introduction has been sent to you by email. Please kindly check your inbox. Thank you very much.

plan a 7-8days trip for me and my boyfriend in April

Hi! I would like to plan a 7-8days trip for me and my boyfriend in April (3rd to 10th ideally) to Nepal, Tibet, and, if possible, Bhutan. Do you think it would be doable? Based on what I read, there are some places/things to do to consider: Nepal: Everest Base Camp trek and the Annapurna Circuit, ancient temples, sacred sites like Lumbini, Kathmandu, Tibet: The Potala Palace in Lhasa and the Jokhang Temple. eventually the holy Mount Kailash or the high-altitude plains. Bhutan: Thimphu, Paro, and the famous Tiger’s Nest Monastery. To take part in cultural traditions, yoga, meditation... Of course I am open to any recommendations you could make. For your reference, we are both based in Asia: him, in Bangkok and myself in Macau. Thank you so much for the information you could provide and, if possible, an estimated budget for your offer.

Dear Shek, Thank you for reaching out and we are here to help. For Hong Kong residents that want to travel to Tibet, a Tibet Travel permit is not required, as long as you have the HKSAR passport, as well as the Home Return Permit (HRP). Officially known as the Mainland Travel Permit for Hong Kong and Macao Residents, the HRP can be issued to Chinese nationals that are permanent residents of Hong Kong in order to enter mainland China. Cheers!

Is it open for Indian Passport Holder?

Answered by Tibet Tour team

Dear Nayak, Thank you for reaching out! We're here to help. Well, for Indian passport holders who plan to visit Mt. Kailash, you have to book your Tibet tour with a licensed Nepali or Indian travel agency that is authorized by the Foreign Affairs Office of TAR or Pilgrim Center (also known as Tibet-India Pilgrim Reception Center) to get your Tibet Travel Permit and run your Tibet tour. If you are an Indian origin who lives outside of India and have another passport, let's say a US or Canadian passport, in this case, we can help you get the Tibet Travel Permit and other travel documents and arrange the Mt. Kailash tours for you.

The "Tibet Entry Permit" should be apply

I heard from my friend that says there is difference between the above mentioned are: "Individual Tibet Entry Permit" - Individual Entering Tibet is granted. "Group Tibet Entry Permit" - Anyone from the group is Absent, the whole group is deny entry. May I know which one is the correct facts?

Jun 15, 2024 11:12
Answered by Tibet Tour team

Tibet Travel Permit, the required travel document for entering Tibet Autonomous Region, has no distinction between individual and group. . What your friends might have mentioned is the Group Visa, specifically required for entry into Tibet from Nepal. You'll have to apply for the Group Visa at the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu, and you'll need at least four people in your group. You'll all have to enter and leave Tibet together. But if you're entering Tibet from mainland China, you don't need this group thing. Our travel consultant will contact you with more details and help you arrange your trip to Tibet.
