1. When is the best time to do EBC trek in Nepal?
Answer: Well, March to May and late Sept. to Nov are the best time to do EBC trek in Nepal. It’s totally free from the influence of Monsoon. Travelling in these periods of time, you will have a chance to see many beautiful peaks including Mt. Everest. The temperature will be well above 15 Celsius during the day time. Travelling from Late Sept. to Nov you will enjoy the superb visibility esp. going to EBC trek. While from March to May, the vibrant flowers and lovely wildlife would add new surprise to your trek.
2. What kind of shoes are best suited for this trek?
Answer: Choosing proper footwear is of primary importance for any trek. Pick a well-established brand with quality guarantee, such as North Face. And make sure your boots are comfortable, waterproof, lightweight, breathable.
3. Are the elderly fit for EBC trek?
Answer: There is no one saying EBC trek is exclusive to young guys and athletes. If you love outdoor activities, like jogging and swimming and trekking without severe respiratory problems, you are good to go. One thing for sure, do have a full preparation and travel with your family or friends. It’s necessary to have travel insurance which should cover helicopter rescue because high altitude sickness can occur anytime if you are not familiar with it. 4. Are Teahouse or lodges on EBC route are very similar or there is difference in levels of comfort and quality?
Answer: In fact, quality does vary quite a lot. The Everest region does offer a greater variety of quality than most of the other trekking areas in Nepal. Usually, at higher places such as Gorak Shep there is less choice, more choice at lesser altitudes such as Namche Bazaar. There are also some luxury lodges at some $100/200 per night. Basically two different type of lodges: comfort lodges and normal lodges. Comfort lodges are way too expensive than normal lodges. And luxury means inside bathroom, Hot shower good blanket.
5. Apart from Namche Bazaar, is internet access further available along the way to EBC?
Answer: Mobile phones lines are available on EBC routes. But it'll be very expensive. I suggest you buying a Nepali Sim card, Ncell. Or when you are in Namaste you can use their internet services and mobile lines. It'll be cheaper than use the ones of your own country. As you move higher like Dingboche and Gorak Shep, most of the time you will get E network due to high altitude.
6. Where and how to hire trekking gears?
Answer: Almost everything you need can be found in Thamel, down jacket, good-quality sleeping bag, trekking pole, tent, etc.
7. Coming alone and where to find travel mates?
Answer: You can easily travel in the Everest Region by yourself. It is perfectly safe and the trail is well marked. If you want to find a group, you will have to hang out in Kathmandu for a few days, post notes on the travel pin ups and get a group together. 8. Is it safe to trek alone to EBC?
Answer: well, trekking alone to EBC is not uncommon these days. However, if you intend to do so, I personally highly recommend that you take a guide, because travelling in high altitudes and difficult terrain, and the well-train guide is your safety.
