Budget Everest Base Camp Tours in Tibet
It's more than common that Tibet tours to Everest Base Camp cost more than standard city tours. In fact, you don't need to splurge to experience the magic of Everest. Our Tibet travel agency offers two small-group EBC tours that let you explore this iconic destination with minimal cost, maximum comfort, and the best views possible, starting from just 930 USD per person.
Why Everest Base Camp Tours Cost More Than Standard Lhasa City Tours
First, let's clear up the price confusion. Standard Tibet city tours are more affordable because they stay within a compact area, with shorter travel distances and no need for additional permits beyond the basic Tibet Travel Permit. The journey from Lhasa to Everest Base Camp covers a considerable distance: it is over 300 kilometers to Shigatse (Tibet's second-largest city), and then another 300-plus kilometers from Shigatse to Everest Base Camp. Much of this route involves navigating winding mountain roads, with elevations ranging from 3,600 to 5,200 meters. This requires experienced drivers and well-maintained vehicles, which add to the cost. Second, entering the Everest region demands a special Aliens' Travel Permit and a Border Pass, which involve extra paperwork and fees. Finally, accommodating travelers at high altitudes requires specialized lodging, like tented guesthouses at Everest Base Camp, which are more costly to operate than city economy hotels. All these factors contribute to the higher price tag, but with our budget-friendly small-group tours, you can avoid overpaying while still enjoying a seamless journey.

Our Budget-Friendly Everest Base Camp Tour Options
Our team has designed two small-group shared tours that make Everest accessible to everyone. Both tours start in Lhasa, giving you time to acclimatize to the high altitude before heading to the mountains—an essential part of a safe and enjoyable Tibet trip. The 8 Days Lhasa to Everest Base Camp Tour covers all the highlights of the Everest region, while the 10 Days Lhasa to Everest Base Camp and Namtso North Elephant Gate Tour adds a visit to the stunning Namtso Lake, one of Tibet's three holy lakes, for even more natural beauty. We keep group sizes small to ensure a personalized experience, provide experienced local guides who know the best viewpoints and hidden gems, and include all essential permits, transportation, and accommodations—so you won't face any surprise costs along the way.

Key Everest Base Camp Itinerary Days of Our EBC Small Group Tours
Addition to the Lhasa city and Yamdrok Lake sightseeing, the most anticipated part of any Everest tour is the journey from Shigatse to Everest Base Camp and back. Here's a detailed look at these core days, so you know exactly what to expect:
On the fifth day of your Tibet tour, your day routine starts with sorting out the final permits for the Everest region—we handle all the paperwork, so you don't have to worry about delays. Then, you'll set off on a 340-kilometer journey that takes around 8 hours, climbing from 3,600 meters in Shigatse to 5,200 meters at Everest Base Camp. Along the way, you'll stop at Dingri Viewpoint and Gawula Mountain Pass, where you can capture breathtaking panoramic shots of Mount Everest and the surrounding Himalayan peaks. As the sun begins to set, you'll arrive at the Rongbuk Monastery living area, and then head to Everest Base Camp to witness the golden hour light painting the peak. You'll stay at the Rongbuk Monastery tent guesthouse, a basic but warm option that lets you stay close to the mountain.
The next day, wake up early to catch the morning glow on Mount Everest—this is often the clearest time of day to see the peak in all its glory. After soaking in the views, you'll visit Rongbuk Monastery, the highest monastery in the world, where you can learn about the local Buddhist culture and enjoy more views of Everest from its grounds. Then, you'll head back towards Shigatse, passing through Dinggye County and Sakya County. Along the way, a stop at the Himalayan Xilin Viewpoint offers stunning views of Everest's east face and Lhotse, the fourth-highest peak in the world. The 360-kilometer journey takes around 8 hours, and you'll be treated to a special Tibetan song and dance dinner in Shigatse.
Winter EBC Tour Accommodation Note: Where to Stay When Everest Tents Are Closed
If you're traveling to Everest during winter, it's important to know that the tent guesthouses at Everest Base Camp close due to the extreme cold. But don't let that stop you—winter is a wonderful time to visit. We'll arrange your accommodation in Basong Village or Zhaxizong, the closest villages to Everest Base Camp. These villages offer warm, basic guesthouses that keep you comfortable while still being within a short distance of the best Everest viewpoints. Our local guides will adjust the itinerary to ensure you still get the most spectacular views of the peak, even in winter.

Top Money-Saving Tips for Your Tibet Everest Trip
Choosing our budget small-group tour is the first step to saving money, but there are more ways to stretch your budget during your trip. First, pack smart to avoid unnecessary purchases. Bring warm, layered clothing suitable for high altitudes—thermal underwear, a down jacket, and a windproof outer layer are essential, and buying these in Tibet can be expensive. Also, pack reusable water bottles; you can refill them at hotels or restaurants for free, instead of buying costly bottled water. Second, take advantage of free or low-cost meals. Most of our tour packages include key meals like breakfast, so plan to eat light for the other meals at local Tibetan teahouses, where you can enjoy affordable dishes like Tibetan noodles or yak butter tea. Third, skip overpriced souvenirs at tourist hotspots. Instead, visit local markets in Lhasa or Shigatse, where you can find authentic handicrafts at lower prices. Finally, travel during the off-season (November to March). Not only are our tour prices more affordable, but accommodation and food costs in the region also drop significantly during this time. By following these tips, you can focus on enjoying the beauty of Everest without worrying about your wallet.
Conclusion
A quick and useful reminder: lock in our lowest early-bird price and secure the best spots by booking your Tibet tour in advance!

plan a 7-8days trip for me and my boyfriend in April
Hi! I would like to plan a 7-8days trip for me and my boyfriend in April (3rd to 10th ideally) to Nepal, Tibet, and, if possible, Bhutan. Do you think it would be doable? Based on what I read, there are some places/things to do to consider: Nepal: Everest Base Camp trek and the Annapurna Circuit, ancient temples, sacred sites like Lumbini, Kathmandu, Tibet: The Potala Palace in Lhasa and the Jokhang Temple. eventually the holy Mount Kailash or the high-altitude plains. Bhutan: Thimphu, Paro, and the famous Tiger’s Nest Monastery. To take part in cultural traditions, yoga, meditation... Of course I am open to any recommendations you could make. For your reference, we are both based in Asia: him, in Bangkok and myself in Macau. Thank you so much for the information you could provide and, if possible, an estimated budget for your offer.
