Budget-friendly Tips for Traveling to Tibet
Time to Choose
Generally speaking, the off-season for tourism in Tibet is winter, during which time it is relatively cheaper. As for transportation, the price of tickets to fly to Tibet from major domestic cities will drop according to market demand. If you book tickets in advance, you will get a better price. Moreover, the fares of attractions, accommodation and meals will also be lower than peak season. Additionally, book a Tibet tour with us in advance of your expected travel date, so you can also get early bird discount. Just contact our professional travel consultants to learn more about the latest Tibet travel discounts.
Transportation to Choose
Usually, taking a train is a money-saving choice to Tibet in comparison with airplane. There are soft sleepers, hard sleepers and hard seats in a train. Most people prefer hard sleepers for its comfort and cost performance as well. At present, you are able to travel to Tibet by train from Guangzhou, Shanghai, Beijing, Chengdu, Chongqing, Xi'an and Xining. The train from Xining to Lhasa is the shortest railway line into Tibet.
International flights to China tend to arrive in these cities:Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Chongqing, Xi'an, Kunming. There are flights from these cities to Lhasa with a flight time of about 2-3 hours almost everyday. Only Kathmandu has direct international flights to Lhasa. Except for Xining among these cities mentioned above, Other cities all have direct trains to Lhasa.

Type of Tour to Choose
By booking a group tour rather than a private customized tour, you can share the cost of the tour with other tourists. During your trip, you can make new friends from different countries. For example, you can book a four-day group tour in Lhasa, or a five-day tour of Yamdrok Lake. The Tibet group tours provided by our travel agency cover almost all the popular attractions in Tibet, and we’re sure you will find one that suits you.
Type of Hotel to Choose
Hotels like economic 2-star hotel or 3-star hotel enable you to enjoy both comfort and cheap price. It is suggested to choose the lowest standard room for accommodation and share a room with another tourist.

Prepare for Your Daily Necessities
The high altitude of Qinghai-Xizang Plateau accounts for the fact that the transportation cost of goods is high. You’d better prepare for your daily necessities like toiletries and medicines in advance. To prevent from strong UV rays, you can prepare sunglasses, sun hats, and sunscreen cream, etc. There is a large temperature difference between morning and evening. Please prepare a fleece jacket and jacket before entering Tibet.

How Much to Tip
Tipping is not mandatory. You can freely decide whether to pay for tips or not. We do recommend that you tip guide and driver due to their long work time. You can also tip trekking porter while trekking in Mt. Kailash.

plan a 7-8days trip for me and my boyfriend in April
Hi! I would like to plan a 7-8days trip for me and my boyfriend in April (3rd to 10th ideally) to Nepal, Tibet, and, if possible, Bhutan. Do you think it would be doable? Based on what I read, there are some places/things to do to consider: Nepal: Everest Base Camp trek and the Annapurna Circuit, ancient temples, sacred sites like Lumbini, Kathmandu, Tibet: The Potala Palace in Lhasa and the Jokhang Temple. eventually the holy Mount Kailash or the high-altitude plains. Bhutan: Thimphu, Paro, and the famous Tiger’s Nest Monastery. To take part in cultural traditions, yoga, meditation... Of course I am open to any recommendations you could make. For your reference, we are both based in Asia: him, in Bangkok and myself in Macau. Thank you so much for the information you could provide and, if possible, an estimated budget for your offer.
