Tibetan Tea and Its Cultural Significance
The Shoton Festival is one of the most significant traditional festivals in Tibet, usually celebrated in July or August each year. Originating from the tradition of local residents offering yogurt to Buddhist monks to show their appreciation after the monks' period of secluded meditation and practice, the festival has a rich historical and cultural background. During the Shoton Festival, you can immerse yourself in the profound cultural heritage of Tibetan Buddhism and participate in various religious and cultural activities, such as the Buddha-unveiling ceremony and Tibetan opera performances, which provide a deep insight into the beliefs and lifestyles of the Tibetan people.

Since the 17th century, this tradition has been continuously carried on here. At Drepung Monastery, you can experience the most authentic and historically rich Buddha Unfolding Ceremony. Enjoy Tibetan Opera at the Longwangtan Park During the Shoton Festival
Located right at the foot of the majestic Potala Palace, Longwangtan Park stands as one of the most significant venues for Tibetan opera performances during the Shoton Festival. Here, visitors are treated to the most traditional and authentic renditions of Tibetan opera. Dressed in resplendent traditional costumes and adorned with distinctive masks, the performers bring the stage to life with their rustic yet vivid acting styles, allowing audiences to experience the raw charm of this ancient art form. Beyond the opera shows, the park hosts a plethora of other folk activities, such as exhibitions of traditional handicrafts, offering tourists a one-stop immersion into the rich tapestry of Tibetan cultural events.
Taste Authentic Tibetan Yogurt at Barkhor Street During the Shoton Festival
As the Shoton Festival originated from the yogurt feast, yogurt is not just food but also a symbol of Tibetan culture, permeating festival rituals, family life, and daily social interactions in Tibet. It is an indispensable delicacy during the Shoton Festival. Tibetan yogurt, typically made from yak or cow milk, is thick in texture, rich in aroma, and has a mellow taste, which is significantly different from industrially produced yogurt and represents an irreplaceable original flavor. Given the dry and oxygen-deficient plateau climate, the probiotics in yogurt aid digestion, while its rich nutrition quickly replenishes energy and relieves travel fatigue. Therefore, tasting Tibetan yogurt is highly beneficial.

plan a 7-8days trip for me and my boyfriend in April
Hi! I would like to plan a 7-8days trip for me and my boyfriend in April (3rd to 10th ideally) to Nepal, Tibet, and, if possible, Bhutan. Do you think it would be doable? Based on what I read, there are some places/things to do to consider: Nepal: Everest Base Camp trek and the Annapurna Circuit, ancient temples, sacred sites like Lumbini, Kathmandu, Tibet: The Potala Palace in Lhasa and the Jokhang Temple. eventually the holy Mount Kailash or the high-altitude plains. Bhutan: Thimphu, Paro, and the famous Tiger’s Nest Monastery. To take part in cultural traditions, yoga, meditation... Of course I am open to any recommendations you could make. For your reference, we are both based in Asia: him, in Bangkok and myself in Macau. Thank you so much for the information you could provide and, if possible, an estimated budget for your offer.
