Tibetan Food

Tibet is vast in area and rich in ox and sheep. The main crop in Tibet is barley which is strong to resist cold and drought; the main foods in Tibet are beef, mutton and tsampa. The ways to cook food in Tibet are not as various as in inland, but there are many unique delicacies in Tibet.

Tibet Food – Snack" Ti" (Fondue Cake)

The snack "Ti" in Tibet is made up from chess product which is rich in nutrition, used to entertain customers and monks in festivals. A dish of "Ti" putting on the table looks like a cluster of lotus, very attractive. It will give you a special feeling when you taste it. The snack "Ti" is similar with moon cake in Guangdong district. The way to make it: first dry the milky white starch which left by extracting cream, then grind it into flour, add some butter, sugar, Jiaoma (Solanum muricatum), raisin, peach kernel in it, then make it into oval or square, use red and green ribbon to make some designs on it to express auspice and longevity, then put it into food steamer to steam. When the customers come, can present it whole or cut it into pieces. It is said that it is useful to strengthen healthy.

Tibet Food – Blood Sausage

In Tibet, no matter farmer or herdsman, when they kill a sheep, they will eat the sheep blood lonely instead putting the blood into small intestine and cook to eat. It is very fragrant and tender. When you eat it, you will feel your mouth is full of the fragrance. It is a good thing to satisfy the craving for delicious food and tastes good. The way to make blood sausage is very simple. First, mince the best mutton, add moderate salt, pepper and tsampa flour in it and mix up; then put mutton into intestine and use string to divide it into small segments. This is same with the way to make sausage. The way to cook blood sausage is very special. Put the prepared blood sausage into boiled water, when it float up and the sausage become incanus, then take up the sausage and put it into dish. All the family can sit together on the ground to have the blood sausage.

Tibet Food – Ando Dough Sheet

"Ando" is Tibetan laguge which means the area where Tibetan people live in concentrated communities in Qinghai Province, Gansu Province and southwest of Sichuan Province. Tibetans in this area like eating a kind of wheaten food which is easy made and taste good, which is Ando Dough Sheet. It is a wheaten food which Tibetans usually eat and it with its unique nationality flavor. The way to make it is: add some mild water into common flour and knead it into a platoon which is tender than the noodle flour; then cut the flour into pieces in 4 inches long, put them in order, they add a little oil on the surface, and cover it with clean wet cloth.
